Interlock patios in Milton
Two things shape almost every interlock job in Milton, and neither is the paver you pick.
The first is bedrock — toward the west end the Niagara Escarpment brings it close to the surface, which limits how deep you can excavate for a base. Subdivision lots have been driven over for months. That compacted layer doesn't drain, so water sits under a patio unless drainage is designed in. Ignoring it is the most common cause of heaving on newer Milton builds.
Narrow side-yard access
Deep, narrow lots mean side-yard clearance decides whether excavated material and base aggregate move by machine or by wheelbarrow. On a patio, that's tonnes of material either way — it's usually the single biggest line on the quote.

Questions from Milton homeowners
Is bedrock a problem for a patio?
Not a blocker — a design factor. It limits how deep the base can go, so the build compensates elsewhere, mainly through drainage so water doesn't sit on rock under the patio. What it does rule out is quoting from a standard excavation depth without seeing the site.
My side gate is narrow. Does that matter for a patio?
More than for almost any other job. A patio means moving tonnes of excavated material out and tonnes of base aggregate in. By machine that's hours; by wheelbarrow it's days. We measure it at the estimate.
Will a patio heave on a new-build Milton lot?
Not if drainage is designed in. The risk on compacted subdivision subsoil is water sitting under the base with nowhere to go and freezing. That's a solvable problem, but it has to be solved at build time.
