Landscaping in Elora

A community we love working in — from heritage properties to new builds. From new lawns and stone patios to custom decks and fences, HB Landscaping handles the full range of outdoor work for Elora homeowners and businesses.

Working in Elora

What Elora properties actually need.

Elora is a village that takes how things look seriously, and we like working here for exactly that reason. Around Mill Street and the Gorge you're dealing with heritage properties where a new patio or fence has to sit comfortably against limestone that's been there for well over a century. That's a design problem as much as a construction one — material, colour and scale all have to agree with what's already there.

Away from the village core the work changes character: larger lots, rural frontages along the Grand and Irvine, and newer builds on the south and east edges that need their yards finished from scratch. We handle both ends, and we're close enough that a site visit in Elora is a ten-minute drive rather than a scheduling exercise.

On the Ground

What we plan for in Elora.

Heritage-adjacent stonework

Near the village core, new hardscaping reads badly if the stone fights the existing limestone. We steer material selection toward tones and textures that settle in rather than announce themselves.

Gorge-side grading

Properties running toward the Grand and Irvine have real slope on them. Getting water moving away from the house — and not simply dumping it on the neighbour — takes drainage planning, not just a patio.

Rural lot access

Larger properties outside the village often mean long runs for material and equipment. We plan access routes up front so we're not tracking machinery across the lawn you're paying us to keep intact.

That's most of the job here. We bring samples on site and look at them against your existing stone in daylight before anything is ordered — photos and showroom lighting both lie about colour.

They can. Some Elora properties and streetscapes carry heritage designations that affect exterior work, and requirements vary property by property. We check with Centre Wellington before quoting anything that could be caught by them.

Usually, yes. Ontario's Building Code generally requires a permit once a deck sits more than about 600 mm above grade, and Centre Wellington applies its own requirements on top of that. We confirm what's needed with the local building department before the build, and our footings go below the frost line either way.

Yes. Ontario law requires a locate before anyone digs, so we submit an Ontario One Call request and wait for the utility locates to come back before excavation starts. It costs you nothing and it's not a step we skip.
