Working in Waterloo

What Waterloo properties actually need.

Waterloo's newer west-end neighbourhoods — Laurelwood, Vista Hills, Clair Hills — are full of properties where the house went up long before anyone dealt with the yard. That's most of what we do here: taking a rough-graded lot and turning it into finished outdoor space with a patio, defined beds and a lawn that actually establishes.

Closer to Uptown and the older Beechwood and Westmount streets, the work leans toward renewal and refinement on established properties — reworking a patio that no longer suits how the family uses the yard, rebuilding a fence line, or bringing tired garden beds back under control.

On the Ground

What we plan for in Waterloo.

West-end new builds

The newer subdivisions hand over compacted lots with minimal topsoil. Building proper soil depth and correcting grade first is what makes everything laid on top of it work.

Moraine soils

Ground conditions across Waterloo vary more than most people expect — sandier and better-draining in places, heavy clay in others. It changes drainage design and what we recommend planting.

Established Uptown lots

Older properties near Uptown come with mature planting and restricted access. Renewal work there is about fitting into what exists, not clearing and starting over.

Good to Know

Waterloo questions, answered.

Have a question we haven’t covered? Ask during your free on-site estimate — or give us a call.

Yes — that's a large share of our Waterloo work. We handle it as one project: grading, soil, hardscaping, beds and lawn, so the pieces are designed to work together rather than bolted on year by year.

Spring and fall fill up first. If you have a specific window in mind — a graduation, a wedding, a family visit — tell us when you call and we'll be straight with you about whether it's realistic.

Usually, yes. Ontario's Building Code generally requires a permit once a deck sits more than about 600 mm above grade, and the City of Waterloo applies its own requirements on top of that. We confirm what's needed with the local building department before the build, and our footings go below the frost line either way.

Yes. Ontario law requires a locate before anyone digs, so we submit an Ontario One Call request and wait for the utility locates to come back before excavation starts. It costs you nothing and it's not a step we skip.
