When is the best time to lay sod in Centre Wellington?

Fresh sod can technically be installed any time the ground isn't frozen, but the results aren't equal across the season. In Centre Wellington, the two sweet spots are spring and early fall — when the soil is warm enough for roots to establish but the weather isn't punishing the new turf with mid-summer heat.

Spring

Once the ground has thawed and dried enough to grade properly, spring is an excellent window. The sod has the whole growing season ahead of it, and cooler temperatures mean less watering stress while it knits in.

Early fall

Late August through September is often the best window of all. Warm soil and cooler air help roots establish quickly, with fewer weeds competing than in spring.

What matters more than the calendar

Preparation beats timing every time. Proper grading, good topsoil, and consistent watering in the first few weeks do more for a lawn's long-term health than the exact week it was installed. If you're planning a new lawn, the best move is to get on the schedule early so the install lands in the right window.
