Sod installation in Milton
Milton is mostly new, and that shapes almost every lawn we put in there. Fast subdivision construction leaves ground that has been driven over for months, and a thin skim of topsoil over the top of it.
The other Milton constant is access. The newer lots are deep but narrow, and whether a machine can reach the back yard or everything has to be barrowed through a side gate changes the job more than anything else on the quote.
What Milton lots do to a new lawn
Heavily compacted subsoil
Subdivision construction compacts ground hard. Roots cannot penetrate it and water cannot drain through it, so sod laid straight over it roots shallow and then struggles in the first dry spell. Breaking that layer up is not optional if you want the lawn to last.
Shallow bedrock toward the escarpment
Out toward the west end the Niagara Escarpment brings bedrock closer to the surface. That limits how much you can excavate, which in turn means soil depth has to be built up rather than dug down. It's workable — it just needs to be known before quoting.
Narrow lots and side-yard access
Milton's newer lots are deep and narrow. Side-yard clearance decides whether soil and sod come in by machine or by wheelbarrow, and that's usually the single biggest driver of what a Milton lawn costs.

Yes. Milton is part of our regular working area and we schedule it deliberately — jobs there are usually grouped so travel doesn't end up on your invoice as wasted time.
Why does my new-build lawn need so much soil work?
Because the ground under it was compacted by months of construction traffic and the builder's topsoil layer is thin. That combination is the most common reason new-build lawns fail. Fixing it once is far cheaper than replacing sod twice.
My side gate is narrow — is that a problem?
It's a cost and time factor rather than a blocker. If a machine can't get through, material is barrowed, which takes longer. We'd rather measure it at the estimate than discover it on the day.
