Drainage solutions in Kitchener

Builder grading is done to satisfy lot drainage approval, which is about where water leaves the property — not about whether your back yard is usable. Those are different standards, and a lot can pass one while failing the other.
Can I landscape over the swale between our houses?
Not without care. That swale is the drainage route for both properties and often for others upstream. Blocking or filling it moves the problem to a neighbour and can be a by-law issue. It can usually be made to look better while still working.
How soon will I know it worked?
The next real rainfall. Drainage is one of the few jobs you can verify immediately by watching where the water goes.
